30 augustus Fixing Silver Apple Screen of DeathGot my IPhone 3G this week, it's a black 16GB model. It's really nice, and I just love it.. However, my wife's white 16 GB model got an unrecoverable error while upgrading the iphone software to 2.0. Did a search on the net, and it turned out to be a common iphone problem, termed the "Silver Apple Screen of Death". For all Windows users out there, that should be a familiar term, as it sounds just like the Windows "Blue Screen Of Death" (BSOD). And like the BSOD, this problem can be fixed with a reset. I found this solution from the apple.com forums. Steps to recover from the Silver Apple Screen of Death : 1. To restore your iPhone with iTunes, reset it by holding the wake and home button until your iphone is shut off. 2. Hold the Home button and connect the USB cable to your computer and your iphone. 3. Open iTunes and wait until your phone shows the connect USB to computer screen, release the home button. 4. Choose the option to restore as a new phone. Not the best solution, since these steps restore it back to factory settings, and configuration has to be done all over again. Yet, it's better than getting stuck with a phone that does nothing but display a silver apple logo. I do believe that iTunes does a backup of your iphone settings and configurations. Thus hopefully that mitigates the pain and suffering of re-installation. Hope that helps! =) 21 augustus Vista Vs Justin, Round 3Last night was Vista 64 Vs Justin, Round 3. I bought a DIY PC 3 days ago, and I fixed up everything fined except for Windows Vista. Vista simply refused to boot up correctly even after many attempts of clean installations. It is so frustrating that somehow, I'm sure Microsoft or Vista must be out to make my life difficult.. Up till last night the winning score was Vista two, Justin zero =( But last night was a success! So finally, after 3 nights of painful struggling, installing, formatting, uninstalling, reformatting, etc, my new PC is up and running! The specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.0 GHz Asus P5Q Pro 4GB Kingston HyperX 2X2gb kit MSI R4870 T2D512 OC Edition (gotta love it as it came overclocked!) Maxtor 200 GB SATA CM RealPower M520 Modular MS Vista Home Premium 64bit Total Damage: $1700 I benchmarked it on 3DMark Vantage, and the results were okay and I'm quite satisfied =) CPU score: 6374 Graphics score: 8091 There should be an Olympic event for PC performance =) I'll beat those scores, once I recover from those damages... |
